Default Maltare's Tips for being a successful member!

It occured to me just about 5 minuets ago, that many people seem to not know how to be a successful member in a guild. I know many of us have heard some people complain that they can't seem to fit into any guild, or that thier current guild, though active just doesn't seem to want to include them in their activities. Well, I usually come to the conclusion in almost all these circumstances, that it is often not the fault of the guild, but of the guild member him or herself.

So, long introduction short, here are a few tips for some of you frustrated or even not-so-frustrated guild members out there.

1. Make sure your guild shares the same basic goals as you do. If your guild doesn't have goals for its guild-sanctioned(basically meaning something done regularly or planned by the guild leader/officers) activities that are similar to the things that you would like to do/accomplish, the guild will most likely not suite you.

2. Get Involved! I almost should have put this one first because it is by far the most important tip I can give. Try to add something to conversations in the guild channel, whenever an event is going on try to join in on the fun. Be active in any form of communication available within the guild. If the guild has a website, visit it often, if they have forums, try to at the very least read them regularly, and post on anything that intrests you. I could go on and on about this, but I think you get the point.

3. Know at least the basics of your guilds charter. Most good guilds will have a guild charter or constitution etc. By knowing the basics of it, you will better understand your place in the guild and what the guild expects of you and what you can expect of the guild.

4. Act mature. There's a time and a place to joke around and maybe even act a little immature, but there's always room for acting mature. Use the good scense your God gave you and learn when the times are to pay attention and be patient.

5. Listen to the leaders in your guild. Especially if you don't like them, the leaders in your guild are usually there to help build up the guild, and if you dissagree with a decision or something they want you to do, if it's not wrong, do it anyway first, and then talk to them about it later(privately). Attacking an officer or leader publicly is a good way to get kicked from a guild.

6. Don't hog the airways. There's a fine line between being active in guild chat, and talking too much. If you see that you're the only one talking for a good 8 or 9 lines, just relax for a bit and let others say something. It also can tend to get in the way and other members may become disinterested in the guild chat and turn it off, thus closing a link to the rest of the guild for no good reason.(NOTE: some may do this anyway while doing tombs or a mission but don't give them more of a reason)

7. Take the time to get to know new members. In most guilds, new members are coming and going. Any effort you make to get to know new members increases that likelyhood of the experience of the guild not only being more positive for yourself, but also more positive for that other member.

8. Help out other members when you can. At some point you'll likely want help. If you help out others first that help is much more likely to come, and it wont make you look like a begger.

Not too many tips here, but I hope that they help. Please feel free to add your own tips as well, I know I left out a lot, just highlighted some of the main points.

1. Stay active and play often . A lot of guilds like mine are dying because of people being inactive and not playing for like 1 month.

2. Share your ideas to make your guild more interesting and listen to your guildies opinions since they can point out something you missed out. A lot of team builds develope this way =D.

^_^ I was bored so I decided to add some tips to Maltare's list

Another one: no matter how good you are, don't assume people will automatically listen to your suggestions. You're still seen as the new guy (or girl, but that's so rare). Guilds aren't exactly hierarchies with very strict rules, but there are some unspoken rules, like gradually gaining the respect and trust of other people before you can really excersize your influence. It can be quite insulting if the new guy comes along and thinks some of the senior members should change things. In guildwars, things go very fast, so it shouldn't take an active player more than a few weeks to be fully integrated.
